Written prescriptions

We have made some changes to our written prescriptions.

Our governing body, the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeon dictates that we legally must see a pet AT LEAST every 6 months to define them as ‘under our care: thereby enabling prescribing of medications. The frequency of vet examination is at the discretion of the vet and is individualised to the patient and its needs/condition. This means that the vet may see it necessary to request a prescription check more frequently than 6 months.

The duration of a written prescription at Armstrong vets is as follows:

  • Prescriptions for parasite treatment- Maximum of 6 months’ treatment.
  • Prescriptions for medicines- Maximum of 3 months’ medication.
  • Prescriptions for ‘controlled’ medication- Maximum of 1 months’ medication.

To summarise:

The duration of the written prescription is not linked to the frequency of the veterinary examinations.

A written prescriptions at Armstrong Vets covers for 1 medication or product, and costs £22.50.
